1890s THE MOTTO MINING COMPANY - Incorporated Under the Laws of the State of Colorado - Pitkin County. Most notable is the vignette, showing a horn of plenty with coins spilling out. If you look closely at the background you can see a train of horse-drawn wagons traveling up a steep mountain road. Office at Aspen, Colorado. Unissued.

1902 THE CANTERBURY MINING COMPANY - Incorporated (in 1900) Under the Laws of Wyoming - MINES LOCATED AT LEADVILLE, COLORADO. Unique vignette shows the "Canterbury Cathedral, England". Issued for 5,000 shares valued at 10 cents each. Affixed to the reverse are (2) documentary stamps - series of 1898. This was a silver mining operation. The company owned 60 acres of land on Canterbury Hill, located 1.5 miles north of Leadville. Attractive red seal. 

1902 THE CANTERBURY MINING COMPANY - Incorporated (in 1900) Under the Laws of Wyoming - MINES LOCATED AT LEADVILLE, COLORADO. Unique vignette shows the "Canterbury Cathedral, England". Issued for 5,000 shares valued at 10 cents each. Affixed to the reverse are (2) documentary stamps - series of 1898. This was a silver mining operation. The company owned 60 acres of land on Canterbury Hill, located 1.5 miles north of Leadville. Attractive red seal.   Price - $120

Owns the Surprise Claim on Womack Hill and the Columbia Claim, located on the S.W. slope of Straub Mountain. Signed by J. W. D. Stovell as secretary and Frank H. Hall, company president. Office at Colorado Springs, Colorado.

1905 THE EDWIN BOOTH GOLD MINING AND MILLING COMPANY - Incorporated (in 1892) Under the Laws of the State of Colorado - Extremely rare stock certificate issued to Joseph Hartman Jr. for 2,857 shares. CRIPPLE CREEK DISTRICT, COLORADO printed beneath title. Contains the portrait of renowned actor, Edwin Thomas Booth. His career was overshadowed by his relationship with his younger brother, John Wilkes Booth. This name should sound familiar - John Wilkes Booth assassinated the 16th president of the United States, Abraham Lincoln. This was a tough company to track down. Here is a bit of info I found: Mine located near Summitville. Pitkin County, Colorado in the Alma Mining District. Claims in this area included the Alma, Pease and Sidell Placers. (Ref. Fred Holabird) Company office at New York. Signed by J. S. Banker as secretary and E. S. Munroe, president. Large oval vignette shows an early hydraulic gold mining operation. Shiny-gold seal.

"MOUNTAIN QUEEN REDUCTION WORKS" printed on the largest building in the center. Situated on the west fork of the Animas River, 3 miles SW of Animas Forks. Eureka Mining District. The size of the claim was 300 x 1,500 feet. Surface ore assayed at 15 ounces of silver per ton and improving with depth. Signed by L. H. Dyer as secretary and James H. Fairchild, company president.
